NV Comped Meals Tax

The sales tax on complimentary meals to players at casinos is going back to the drawing board as the Nevada Taxation Department begins to rework the regulation.

The tax took effect on February 14th and it's going to keep accruing on the comped meals that casinos give to players and the free meals given to workers. Millions of dollars are expected to flow into the state’s coffers if the law withstands a legal challenge.

John Bartlett, Nevada Resort Association attorney, said during a public hearing by the taxation department that the outcome of the litigation should be realized before the tax is imposed. Bartlett believes the issue will probably go before the Nevada Supreme Court before it's all over.
