Seminoles Asking for Employee Contributions

The Seminole Tribe has staked out a source of revenue and they want to make sure large-scale resort casinos can't waltz into Florida and dance off with a piece of it.

Florida state lawmakers have continually rejected resort casinos entrance to Florida; the Seminole Tribe wants to make sure it stays that way. When the legislature reconvenes next year, the Seminole Tribe plans to be ready to go to war if a gaming company tries to move into their turf.

There are nearly 10,000 gaming employees in the state and the tribe is asking them to contribute to a recently formed political action committee to keep the tribe's agenda pushing forward in Tallahassee.

“Earlier this year we saw a number of high-profile gaming companies express their desire to operate casinos in the state of Florida,” Seminole Gaming CEO Jim Allen wrote in a June 5 memo to employees.

“As you know this issue died in the last legislative session,” Allen continued. “But I can assure you it is not over.”
