MA Treasurer Objects

State Treasurer Steven Grossman voiced his objection to U.S. Sens. Harry Reid and Jon Kyl's proposed legislation for online gaming in a letter.

Grossman chairs the State Lottery Commission in Massachusetts and doesn't want his state's players dabbling in online poker when they can blow off their fun money in a 'no win' in the Lottery. Sarcasm intended.

Grossman feels the senators' proposal is a threat to the profits of the Lottery which is the largest source of unrestricted aid to Massachusetts' 351 cities and towns.

The letter reads, “The commissioners believe this unwarranted and unjustified usurpation of authority will be harmful to the residents of Massachusetts.”

Grossman also stressed that the interests of the 7,400 businesses that sell lottery products have to be protected due to the revenue that flows to cities and towns.
