Opposition to Reid/Kyl Bill

The National Governors Association (NGA) opposes the draft of Senate online gambling legislation and has informed House and Senate leaders by letter.

The Internet Gambling Prohibition, Poker Consumer Protection, and Strengthening UIGEA Act of 2012 which is commonly known as the Reid/Kyl bill due to its co-sponsor by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid D-NV and Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl R-AZ, is opposed by the NGA because the bill seeks to prohibit most forms of internet gambling - with the exception of online poker.

Governor Tom Corbett, republican Pennsylvania, chairs the NGA and opposes Reid/Kyl “in its current form as an unnecessary preemption of state authority.”

Obviously the key issue is the restriction of state revenues under the proposed legislation.
